It had been exactly one year since my last getaway to South Lake Tahoe, so when it was time to pack my weekender bag and drive the four hours in search of sapphire blue waters and crisp mountain air, I was ready to hit the road. Celebrating the 4th of July in Lake Tahoe is one of the craziest and most crowded weekends to visit, but it’s also one of the most fun. The overall vibe is friendly and patriotic, with American flags everywhere, a chance to participate in water sports and sunshine galore.
We had the pleasure of staying at a lake front property in the area know as Camp Richardson at Jameson Beach. There is something about the lake being your first sight of the day which brings an immense amount of relaxation and happiness to your soul. The air was fresh, the splintered sun shined through the tall trees and the lake temperature provided just the right amount of refreshment to cool down from the still 85 degree air. We did not go to the Nevada-California state line this trip, but if you are looking for the casinos, nightlife and a great array of restaurant, that’s your spot!
The water of Lake Tahoe is always memorizing with it’s variety of dark blues, light greens and every shade in between. Before we headed home to San Francisco, we jumped on the boat and admired the lake and it’s surroundings one last time with a ride to Emerald Bay. The area was littered in boats with people sun bathing, jumping off rocks into the water and exploring the old tea house structure from the 1920’s on Fannette Island. While we were at the bay, we spotted the The Tahoe Queen and the folks aboard appeared to be having an excellent time! Perhaps next time I visit I’ll be on the upper deck overlooking the blue waters below me…
